Thursday the 17th saw the centre open to a group of people from varied backgrounds who came together to hear a presentation from A/Prof Chris Bain, founder of HealthTech-UX.

Susan Walker from Entity3 and the current VeHN President, welcomed the delegates after networking drinks and nibbles, and facilitated the evening’s discussions.
Supporting Chris’ presentation was an overview of the Australian Centre for Health Innovation’s “Digital Health Design Lab” or DHDC – a user experience and solutions design service, given by our own Director of Technology, Frank Smolenaers.
When asked, "is anyone else doing anything like this?", Chris Bain said "This Facility is Unique". The overlay of a contemporary health grade hospital network and test bed to the simulated ward, operating theatre etc. hasn't been done elsewhere and is a great risk mitigating process for the evaluation and adoption of new technology in the organisation.

Chris spoke largely about electronic health records and shared some examples that highlighted the importance of getting the User Experience of digital technology right.
The discussion that ensured covered almost every aspect on the topic - from generational differences in interface usability to standardisation and measurement of effective technology.
The event showcased the importance of UX in technology and healthcare and opened the topic to discussion.
CHI looks forward to continuing our long relationship with VeHN and to support further discussion and events such as this.
